When it comes to setting up your online presence, you know that you must have social media setup. But does it make sense to setup accounts on all platforms, or should you just focus on one? In this episode, you'll hear about:

  1. Daesha’s journey as a social media manager

  2. Her top tips on picking the right social media for your business

  3. Instagram tips to help you get started in business

Key Takeaways

01:58 — Deasha had to re-position herself to attract her ideal clients

  • Her niche shifted from startup businesses. This niche was where a lot of people were talking, but didn't have the money to spend on digital marketing.

  • As a personal trainer, she thought it would be fun to move into the niche to help wellness instructors with their social media. That's where her niche lies today

02:53 — Tips on social media marketing

  • Deasha shares her insights and useful tips on social media marketing, one of which is that you don't need to be on all platforms. Just choose the social media where you naturally hang out in as a start.

03:32 — branding is important for any type of business, especially when you're starting out

  • Branding is important especially when starting out, according to Deasha. Although you can't please everybody, you need to make sure your brand speaks to your target customer or client first and foremost.

05:26 — how social treats came about (The name game is adorable here!)

  • When asked how the name "Social Treats" came about, Deasha's answer was more than perfect: "I like cake!"

  • It seems like an irony since she's serving wellness clients, but that's really not the case!

INTRO:

Welcome to Fempreneur Secrets Podcast where business secrets are revealed. My name is Huda and I'm the founder of Fempreneur Secrets, an online community for women to start and grow their business. I created this podcast to inspire women from all walks of life to get started in business. They're all meant to be step-by-step so you can take quick action into your life and business today. Let's get started with today's episode.
Huda: Today I have the honour of having Deasha Waddup, founder of Social Treats with us to talk a little bit about social media. Welcome on to the show, Deasha and how has it been right now for you and your business?

Deasha: Thank you. I'm so excited to be here. I've been growing, which is scary, exciting, and overwhelming all at the same time.

Huda: Tell me a little bit more about what you do.

Deasha: Social Treats is social media for wellness entrepreneurs. And I work with clients all over the world. I'm based in England.

Huda: Deasha, you just recently started, so what were you doing prior to this?

Deasha: Originally my background actually was in events management. I was a wedding planner when I came out of university, which was fun, exciting and had its own challenges. And then I've been travelling for five years. I moved into marketing. I got a job in marketing in Australia, and then started building my business on the side. And then I went around Asia for a few months, building up my freelancing and my experience, and then I came back to England.

Deasha: I actually got a job in digital marketing agency, which kind of blew my mind on its own because I had no formal experience with marketing whatsoever. When I realised that I was pretty okay at it, and that was doing well within the company, I was like, maybe I should just do it on my own. So I went, "Okay, I'm going to get into, well, go it out on my own".

Huda: How can you market yourself? What were the strategies that you've put in place so that you could get those clients?

Deasha: I had to reposition myself as a business owner. I started working on a marketing plan and I changed, actually. My initial niche was startup businesses, but I realise that's a lot of people that I were talking to didn't have a whole bunch of money to spend. And I kind of had an idea that I was really into wellness. I do yoga, I do exercise. I'm a qualified personal trainer as well. So it was kind of in the background, Oh, maybe I could do this.

Huda: Let's talk about the one thing that you hoped someone would have told you when you were starting out in your business? Let's assume for once that you don't have a business coach and you wished someone who told you this? What would it be?

Deasha: I think it would be that you are good enough and you can do it. You are okay and you will be able to achieve what you want.

Huda: What is one tip that you would like to share with the listeners on how to get started for your business?

Deasha: The first thing is, do what you're passionate about. Don't go along to Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, and create accounts on all of them because there's totally no point if you're not going to do all of them. If you hang out mostly on Instagram, then start your social media on Instagram. If you hang out on Facebook, then start your social media on Facebook. Do one amazingly, and then once you've got that done, then you can start to the next. And be consistent with it.

Huda: What's your take on branding? Is it important and is it necessary for you to have strong branding for you to get started in your business?

Deasha: Yeah. When I onboard my clients, I send them a document to go through around tone of voice, who their niche is, because one other thing I always notice is, people want to be the master of everything. If you know your avatar, the ideal person that you want to work with inside and out. I always say, you even have to know the inside leg measurements. You have to know everything about this ideal person that you want to work with, whoever that is. And that would be the basis for your brand. And then everything you do after that is to talk to that specific person. So if you're going to do lives, for example, then you're talking to that person.

Huda: That's true. That's true. Even just this site, just to let you know, I do train a lot of people in Singapore here about how to get started on branding and marketing, and the first thing I will tell them is always about, "What's your brand purpose?" And at the same time you need to know who is your target persona or buyer persona. What's the point of you doing all this things if you don't know who you're selling to, right?

Deasha: Yeah, yeah. You can't be everybody. One of my clients always says, he's a yoga teacher, "You cannot be everybody's teacher. Yoga is for everybody, but you personally cannot be a yoga teacher for everybody."

Huda: Exactly, I understand that. Social Treats offers social media management. So maybe you can go a little bit in depth about what you offer?

Deasha: I do content creation. I have a graphic designer that I work with who does the graphics. We do all of the posts, scheduling, I do the engagement, the inbox management. You can just leave your phone at home, you can go away and concentrate on your clients and getting your clients results. I learn the common questions that people ask so I didn't have to bug you every five seconds, and answer those directly for you. So I'm just driving people to your webinar or funnel or however it is that you are making a sale.

Huda: So how do you come up with the name Social Treats?

Deasha: I like cake. So that was basically it. I literally just like, "Okay, it has to have something to do with social and I like cake and dessert, so Social Treats became the name."

Huda: That's nice! That's really cute! And I think it's really funny because you are actually helping, your niche is in health and wellness, and you like cake! What kind of results you managed to achieve from working with some of your clients?

Deasha: I was just running the stats the other day for one of my new clients, they came on board in January. And in her group, I've increased her engagement in the group by 904% over the last couple of months. And people are getting to know each other in the group as well and asking those questions.

Huda: So, what's coming up for the next three months for your business.

Deasha: I want to grow my business and I want to make lots of money, but I don't want to be tied to my desk as a result of it. So having a team of people around me was really important part of me because I wanted to be able to step away if I need to, or spend time with my family if I want to, and have that freedom to be able to come and go from my business as I needed to.

Huda: Nice, I really hope that you will continue on this journey prosperously and become a very successful business owner. Then you can start to travel again.

Deasha: Yes!

Huda: Okay, so how can our listeners get in touch with you?

Deasha: You can find me on Facebook or Instagram @socialtreats, or you can check out my website, socialtreats.co.uk.

Huda: All right, that's nice. Okay, so thank you so much for taking time to be here on Fempreneur Secrets. I really enjoyed this conversation and I hope that you also enjoyed it as well.
